SaaS momentum skyrocketing, IDC says

 Interest in the SaaS (software as a service) delivery model is growing to the point that by 2012, almost 85% of new vendors will be focused on SaaS services, according to new research from analyst firm IDC.

Also by 2012, some two-thirds of new offerings from established vendors will be sold as SaaS, IDC said.

SaaS revenue numbers will jump up accordingly in the next few years, rising from $13.1 billion in 2009 to $40.5 billion by 2014, according to the analyst firm.

Rockefeller, Pryor introduce federal data security law

Two senators on Thursday introduced a national data breach notification bill that also would force businesses to create measures to protect sensitive information under their control, according to a news report.

The legislation, introduced Thursday by Sens. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., would require organizations to alert victims of a breach within 60 days and provide them with two years of credit monitoring services, according to the National Journal's Tech Daily Dose blog.

iPad Security Breach Exposes 114,000 E-Mail Addresses

A security breach on AT&T's web site allowed a group of hackers to snarf up 114,000 e-mail addresses from unsuspecting iPad users, according to The New York Times. AT&T said that it has already closed the whole, but the question remains of why they stored such information on a publicly accessible web site in the first place.
